ChiaoGoo's 2-inch (5 cm) interchangeable knitting needle cables come three to a package, in four kinds. With a tip on each end, a 2-inch cable makes a flexible double-pointed needle. With a cable connector, it adds length to another cable.

Each package holds three cables and two T-shaped tightening keys. The metal join at each end of every cable has a small hole. The key goes through that hole to tighten a tip, and you can thread a lifeline through the same hole.

Four Kinds

Each kind is a memory-free multi-strand steel cable with a nylon coating. Choose the kind with the join size of your tips.

Red TWIST and blue X-Flex cables have fixed joins, and X-Flex cables are more flexible than red TWIST cables. Silver SWIV360 cables have a built-in swivel. A swivel lets the cable turn independently of the tips, so the cable does not twist as you knit.

What They Do

Flexible double points

Screw a tip onto each end of a 2-inch cable and tighten both tips with a key. Three cables take three pairs of tips. The needle length is the cable plus the two tips, approximately:

A swivel for a red TWIST cable

A 2-inch SWIV360 cable also adds a swivel to a red TWIST cable. A Small [S] or Large [L] cable connector joins the SWIV360 cable to a red cable of the same join size.

Tips That Fit

Each cable fits ChiaoGoo interchangeable tips with the same join. The sizes with each join depend on the tip length:

Which pack fits Shorties tips?
The tips in the Red Shorties set, US-0 through US-3, have the Mini [M] join and fit the red TWIST Mini cables. The tips in the Blue Shorties set, US-4 through US-8, have the Small [S] join and fit the X-Flex and SWIV360 Small cables. The 3-inch tips in the Yellow Shorties set, US-9 through US-11, have the Large [L] join and fit the SWIV360 Large cables.

Do the tips come loose while knitting?

Do the cables kink?
They are memory-free, not kink-free. ChiaoGoo attributes cable failure to repeated sharp bending, tight tension, and lifting heavy projects by the cable or joins, so lift by the needles. If a cable snaps, here is what to do.
