Description
Red TWIST cables are ChiaoGoo's interchangeable knitting needle cables with fixed joins. Each one is a multi-strand steel cable with a red nylon coating, and it is memory-free.
Each package holds one cable and one T-shaped tightening key. The metal join at each end of the cable has a small hole. The key goes through that hole to tighten a tip, and you can thread a lifeline through the same hole.
Lengths
These Small [S] cables come in six lengths: 8-inch (20 cm), 14-inch (35 cm), 22-inch (55 cm), 30-inch (75 cm), 37-inch (95 cm), and 50-inch (125 cm). The length on the label is the cable alone. The tips add to it.
With 5-inch tips
Two 5-inch (13 cm) tips add approximately 10 inches (26 cm) to the cable length.

Two 3-inch (8 cm) tips add approximately 6 inches (16 cm), and two 2-inch (5 cm) tips add approximately 4 inches (10 cm).
Tips That Fit
Small [S] cables fit ChiaoGoo interchangeable tips with the Small [S] join. The sizes with that join depend on the tip length:

On 2-inch and 3-inch tips, US-2, US-2.5, and US-3 use the Mini [M] join and need a red TWIST Mini cable.
TWIST Lace, QUADS, FORTÉ, and SPIN bamboo tips with the Small [S] join all fit these cables, and so do T-SPIN Tunisian hooks in US-E (3.5 mm) through US-H (5 mm). Find them in the ChiaoGoo Interchangeable Tips & Hooks collection. Large [L] tips, US-9 through US-15, fit these cables with an interchangeable adapter between each tip and the cable.
Other ChiaoGoo Cables
Red TWIST cables also come in Mini [M] and Large [L] joins. Silver SWIV360 cables have the same steel cable and nylon coating, with a swivel built into the cable, in Small [S] lengths from 5 inches (13 cm) through 50 inches (125 cm). Blue X-Flex cables are more flexible than red TWIST cables and come in 5-inch (13 cm), 6-inch (15 cm), and 8-inch (20 cm) lengths. 2-inch (5 cm) cables come three to a package, for flexible double points or to add length to another cable. Questions About These Cables
Do these cables swivel?
No. Red TWIST cables have fixed joins. A swivel lets the cable turn independently of the tips, so the cable does not twist as you knit. A swivel is optional, and tight stitches made with fine yarn can catch on the swivel. A pair of swivel adapters adds a swivel to a red TWIST cable, one between each tip and the cable.
Do the cables kink?
They are memory-free, not kink-free. ChiaoGoo attributes cable failure to repeated sharp bending, tight tension, and lifting heavy projects by the cable or joins, so lift by the needles. If a cable snaps, here is what to do.
Do the tips come loose while knitting?
They can if they are only finger-tight. Tighten each tip with the tightening key through the hole at the cable's join every time you attach it. The guide to keeping your ChiaoGoo tips secure shows each step.
What do cable connectors and end stoppers do?
A Small [S] cable connector joins two Small [S] cables into one longer cable. Small [S] end stoppers screw onto the cable ends and turn the cable into a stitch holder, so you can use the tips on another project.
