Description
Cut strips from folded yardage through slits every 1/2 inch without moving the ruler between cuts, then subcut them, cut 45 and 60 degree diamonds and triangles, and square blocks up to 12 1/2 inches, all with one 17 3/4 x 22 inch ruler. Stars under the slits mark 1 1/2 inch cuts and squares mark 2 1/2 inch cuts, so you find the right slit without doing math.

How to Use It
Fold the yardage in half lengthwise so it lies in four layers, with the fold toward you and the selvages and bolt fold together. Align the bottom fold with the 0 line and keep the raw edge to the left of the 0 slit. Drop the rotary cutter into the teardrop at the bottom of a slit and cut upward: first through the 0 slit to square the edge, then through the slits for your strip width. For widths in 1/4 inch steps, make the first cuts, slide the ruler right, line the cut edge up with the 1/4 inch dotted line left of the 0 slit, and cut again; the chart in the instructions lists the slits for strips from 1 1/4 to 3 3/4 inches. Layer strips under the ruler to subcut them into squares and rectangles, or line the horizontal lines up with the seams of a strip-pieced unit and cut it the same way.
To square a block in whole inches up to 12 inches, center the black square of that size on the block, cut through the 0 slit and the slit for the size, turn the block 90 degrees, and cut the other two sides. For half-inch sizes up to 12 1/2 inches, turn the ruler 180 degrees, center the white square of that size on the block, and cut through the two slits labeled with that size. The slits help hold the block in place because it does not rock on its seams. Line the 45 or 60 degree line up with the bottom of a strip to cut diamonds, and rotate to the other 60 degree line to cut 60 degree triangles. The diagonal lines from the 0 and 20 slits cut stacked squares on point into triangles; the instructions suggest the 0 side for left-handed quilters and the 20 side for right-handed. Dotted lines 1/4 and 1/2 inch in from the top and side edges help you trim a quilt after quilting.
Lift the ruler with both hands. The instructions warn that twisting or bending the acrylic can break it, and the ruler itself prints "Pick up from both sides. Do not bend." The ruler slides on the fabric while you position it; pressing down engages the grip.

Fit and Limits
The slits run every 1/2 inch from 0 to 20. Widths in 1/4 inch steps take a second pass with the ruler moved 1/4 inch. The smallest black square is 3 inches and the smallest labeled white square is 4 1/2 inches; for small units, the Stripology Squared Mini squares blocks from 2 inches up to 6 1/2 inches. At 17 3/4 x 22 inches the XL is the largest Stripology ruler; the Stripology Squared uses the same 14 3/4 inch slits on a 14 1/2 x 17 3/4 inch ruler.
