Cut strips in 1/4 inch steps through slits every 1/4 inch, add 1/8 inch to a cut with the 1/8 inch dotted line, and square blocks and block parts in 1/4 inch sizes up to 6 1/4 inches with one 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch ruler. It is the same size as the Stripology Squared Mini with twice as many slits, and the instructions note that no other Stripology ruler has slits every 1/4 inch.

How to Use It

Fold a fat quarter or fat eighth into four layers with both folds parallel, align the bottom fold on the 0 line, and keep the edge left of the 0 slit. Cut upward from the teardrop, through the 0 slit first and then the slits for your width. The 1/4 inch slits sit staggered and start 1/2 inch above the 1/2 inch slits, so you can tell them apart; stars mark the 1 1/2 inch cuts. To add 1/8 inch to a single cut, align the trimmed edge with the 1/8 inch dotted line left of the 0 slit; a 2 7/8 inch square uses the 2 3/4 inch slit. For several strips in 1/8 inch sizes, make the first cuts, slide the ruler to the 1/8 inch line, and cut again; the chart in the instructions covers strips from 5/8 to 3 1/8 inches.

To square blocks, turn the ruler to the Square Up Side. Alternating black and white squares radiate from the center in 1/4 inch sizes up to 6 1/4 inches. Center the square of your size on the block, line the white diagonal and straight lines up with the seams, cut through the marked slits on both sides, turn the block 90 degrees, and cut the other two sides. Creative Grids says to trim flying geese units with the 45 degree lines, down to 1/4 inch sizes. To cut stacked squares into triangles, lay them on point, align the white diagonal dotted lines from the 0 or 6 1/4 inch slit with the bottom edges, and cut; the instructions suggest the 0 side for left-handed quilters and the 6 1/4 inch side for right-handed. The ruler slides on the fabric while you position it; pressing down engages the grip.

The Quarters Mini squares blocks up to 6 1/4 inches, in sizes that end in 1/4 or 3/4 inch; the Stripology Squared and the Stripology XL square blocks up to 12 1/2 inches. It has one 1/8 inch dotted line, so several strips in 1/8 inch sizes take two passes. The instructions do not show the flying geese steps; the brand page names the 45 degree lines for that job. The Stripology Squared Mini is the same size, with slits every 1/2 inch, squares in whole and half-inch sizes up to 6 1/2 inches, and dotted lines for 1/8 and 3/8 inch cuts.
