Drawn squares radiate across the ruler in every size to 12 1/2 inches: center the square that matches your target size, cut through the two slits at its edges, rotate the block 90 degrees, and repeat. Because the block sits inside the slits rather than under a flat ruler, it stays put over bulky seams. Designed by Gudrun Erla, the Squared carries the full strip-cutting slit system of the original Stripology, so one tool covers both jobs.

How to Use It

For blocks, black squares radiating from the bottom left corner mark whole inch sizes, and white squares radiating from the center mark half inch sizes, up to 12 1/2 inches. Center the drawn square on your block, line the diagonal and horizontal guides up with the seams, cut through the two slits at the square's edges, then rotate 90 degrees and trim the remaining sides. For strips, fold fabric to four layers, square the raw edge at the 0 slit, and cut through the slits matching your strip width; slits sit at every 1/2 inch position, with stars marking 1 1/2 inch cuts and squares marking 2 1/2 inch cuts. Extra guides handle 1/4 and 3/4 inch cuts, plus half-square and quarter-square triangle squaring.
