Cut fat quarters and fat eighths into strips, cut squares and rectangles in 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 inch sizes, and square blocks and triangle units from 2 to 6 1/2 inches with one 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch ruler. The instructions call it a smaller version of the Stripology Squared, and it works the same way: slits every 1/2 inch, and squares you center on the block to trim it.

How to Use It

Fold a fat quarter or fat eighth in half lengthwise and again, into four layers. Align the bottom fold on the 0 line, keep the edge left of the 0 slit, and cut upward from the teardrop, through the 0 slit first and then the slits for your width. Stars mark the 1 1/2 inch cuts. To add 1/8 or 3/8 inch to a cut, align the trimmed edge with the 1/8 or 3/8 inch dotted line left of the 0 slit; a 3 3/8 inch square, for example, uses the 3/8 inch line and the 3 inch slit. For 1/4 and 3/4 inch sizes, turn the ruler around 180 degrees to the 1/4 inch cut end, align the edge with its dotted line, and cut through the slit for the size.

Black squares from the bottom left corner mark whole-inch sizes from 2 to 6 inches, and white squares from the center mark half-inch sizes from 2 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches. Center the square of your size on the block, line its diagonal and horizontal lines up with the seams, cut through the two slits at its edges, turn the block 90 degrees, and cut the other two sides. The slits help hold the block in place because it does not rock on its seams. To cut stacked squares into triangles, lay them on point, align the white diagonal dotted lines from the 0 or 6 1/2 inch slit with the bottom edges, and cut; the instructions suggest the 0 side for left-handed quilters and the 6 1/2 inch side for right-handed. The ruler slides on the fabric while you position it; pressing down engages the grip.

The Squared Mini squares blocks up to 6 1/2 inches; the Stripology Squared and the Stripology XL square blocks up to 12 1/2 inches. Its slits run every 1/2 inch. The Stripology Quarters Mini is the same size, with slits every 1/4 inch and squares in 1/4 inch sizes up to 6 1/4 inches.
