Description
Make 8 inch finished crazy patch blocks from scraps, 10 inch squares, or 6 inch strips. Three templates cut the five patches of each block, and the blunted template tips line the patches up at the seams. Karen Montgomery designed the set, and her Scrap Crazy Play Quilt Pattern Book has seven projects for it.
What's Included
Three acrylic templates (D, A/B, and C), an illustrated instructions sheet, and a resealable bag for storage. This listing does not include fabric, rotary cutter, and cutting mat.
How to Use It
Each block takes one A, one B, two C, and one D patch. Choose five assorted fabrics and cut them right side up. The A/B template cuts both A and B. Use the whole template for A. For B, set the Cutting Line for Template B on a straight cut edge of the fabric, so the end of the template hangs off the fabric and the patch comes out shorter.
From 10 inch squares, stack as many as you are comfortable cutting at one time. Set the D template in the bottom right corner about 1/2 inch from the bottom edge, set the C template next to it, lay a long ruler against the angled edge of C, and cut across the squares. Cut B and one C from the smaller section and A, D, and the second C from the larger. One square yields the five patches of one block. From a 6 inch strip, cut D and one C, turn the template 180 degrees for the second C, cut B with the black line on the bottom edge of the strip, then cut the rest into two 3 inch strips and cut A from one of them.
Sew D to one C and add A to the bottom edge. Sew B to the other C, then join the two units. The block measures 8 1/2 inches with seam allowance, and the instructions give no trimming step. A QR code on the A/B template links to the demonstration video.

Fit and Limits
The set makes one block size, 8 inches finished, in one layout of five patches. Cut every fabric right side up, because fabric that faces down gives a mirror image block. The 10 inch square method needs a long ruler for the first cut. The instructions sheet shows a block layout and includes no quilt pattern or yardage. Blocks from the Crazier Eights Templates finish at the same 8 inches, so blocks from the two sets fit in one quilt. For a 6 inch block, use the Scrap Crazy 6 Templates.
