Description
Cut the four patches of a 6 inch finished crazy patch block from four templates, one patch from each. Four layered 6 inch strips yield 16 blocks. The same templates also combine into other shapes, and Karen Montgomery, who designed the set, wrote two books of projects for it: the Scrap Crazy 6-Inch Quilt Pattern Book with seven and Crazy For More with nine.
What's Included
Four acrylic templates (A, B, C, and D), an illustrated instructions sheet, and a resealable bag for storage. This listing does not include fabric, rotary cutter, and cutting mat.
How to Use It
Lay the fabrics right side up and cut one patch from each template for each block. Arrange the patches as the block diagram on each template shows, with the straight of grain side of the A triangle on the outside edge of the block. Sew A to B, matching the clipped corners, and press toward the darker fabric. Sew C to D. Join the A/B unit to the C/D unit. The instructions give no trimming step.
To cut from a 6 inch strip, remove the selvedge, cut A and B, then turn the remaining fabric over and cut the second B from the back. Cut C and D, then turn the last section over and cut A, C, and D from the back. Each folded strip gives four blocks, two that face right and two that face left, so four layered strips give 16.
The A template prints a cutting line for an optional E patch, which splits the A triangle in two for a five patch block. The instructions sheet also shows three alternate shapes as diagrams: a rectangle of A, B, B reversed, and E, a unit of four C or D patches, and a hexagon of six A triangles. A QR code on the C template links to the demonstration video.

Fit and Limits
The set makes one block size, 6 inches finished. The strip method cuts mirror image blocks, two facing each way from every strip. For blocks that all face one way, cut every patch from the right side of the fabric. The instructions sheet shows the optional E patch and the alternate shapes in diagrams and gives no written steps for them. It gives no method for 10 inch squares and includes no quilt pattern or yardage. For an 8 inch block, use the Scrap Crazy 8 Templates or the Crazier Eights Templates.
