The Laura Heine Collage Mat is that surface, designed by the maker who defined the technique. Slide the pattern under the transparent silicone mat, build the collage directly on top, press sections as they come together, and lift each fused unit off in one piece.

How to Use It
Place the pattern beneath the mat and layer fused fabric pieces over it; the transparency keeps placement exact, and the slightly tacky surface holds pieces where they land. The mat is heat resistant up to 500 degrees F, so sections can be pressed with a hot iron, fused together, then picked up as one unit and moved to the foundation. The mat protects the work surface from fusible glues while pressing, and the Teflon sheet adds a second barrier between soleplate and fusible when pressing from the top. Wash the mat with soap and water or run it through the dishwasher to restore the tack.
