Description
Trim strip-pieced 45 degree diamonds to one size, in five block designs that include a traditional Lone Star block. You cut only the small center diamond to an exact size; you trim each strip after you sew it, and for the final trim you cut the whole block along the tool's outline. The included instructions cover all five designs and a Lone Star wall hanging.

How to Use It
Start with the center diamonds. Cut a 45 degree angle on one end of a strip at least 2 x 4 3/4 inches, turn the strip, set the tool on the first cut edge as the instructions show, and cut again to make a diamond. Trim its sharp tips even with the blunt end of the tool. The instructions label the strips in the order you add them: B strips 2 1/4 x 6 inches, C strips 2 1/4 x 9 inches, and D strips 2 1/4 x 12 inches. Sew a strip to the diamond, press it away from the center, and trim it even with the diamond's edge. For the final trim, set the tool over the pieced block, line the diamond on the tool up with the seams as each design's steps direct, trim all four sides, and trim the tips even with the blunt ends.
The designs differ in which strips you add and where each color falls. The Basic and Center Diamond blocks use B and D strips, and the Center Diamond block follows the same steps in three colors. The Pointy and Wide Angle blocks add C strips and trim after each one. The Lone Star block joins three strip sets into a block of nine diamonds, and eight of those blocks make the star. The instructions recommend spray sizing or starch to stabilize the bias edges, and a rotating mat for the trimming. The tool slides on the fabric while you position it; pressing down engages the grip.

Fit and Limits
The tool trims one size of 45 degree diamond. It works with strip piecing: you cut the small center diamonds from a strip, then sew strips to them and trim. The instructions give cut sizes for every piece, but no yardage and no finished size for the wall hanging. The wall hanging goes together in four squares. Each square joins two diamond-and-triangle units, and straight seams join the squares.
