A Lone Star is only as good as its diamonds. Pieced from strips, each one can drift a little, and eight slightly different diamonds meet in a star that will not lie flat. The Diamond Trim Tool, designed by Jean Ann Wright for Creative Grids, trims every pieced diamond to the same clean size, with the quarter-inch seam allowances marked. Five block designs come from the one tool, including a classic Lone Star.
What's Included
This listing is for the Diamond Trim Tool only. It ships with illustrated step-by-step instructions for all five designs, plus a pattern for a full Lone Star quilt. Fabric and notions are not included.
How to Use It
Cut the center diamond each block starts from, using the tip notches to blunt the sharp points so they are easier to feed through the machine. Build the diamond outward by adding strips, trimming each to size as you go. To finish, line the center-diamond mark over the middle of the block and trim all four sides. Only the center diamond is cut to an exact size at the start; everything after is trimmed in place, so every finished diamond comes out the same.
The five designs differ only in which strips get added and where the colors fall. The tool is built for 2-1/2 inch strips, or 2-1/4 inch if cutting your own. Pretreat the bias edges with starch or sizing to keep them from stretching, and a rotating mat makes the trimming easier. The non-slip grip holds the tool steady while you cut.
