Description
For pressing seams flat, open, or to one side, this is a 17-3/4 inch bar with a solid wood core and a rounded top with a cover of 100% felted wool. The flat wood side works as a clapper.

How to Use It
Lay the sewn pieces on the ironing surface with the bar underneath and the seam running along the rounded wool top, then press firmly with the iron along the seam, as Maywood Studio's step photos show. Then turn the bar wood side down onto the pressed seam; the wood absorbs heat and moisture to set the seam flat. The rounded top also presses curves and small areas, and the bar slides inside a fabric tube to press its seam.

Fit and Limits
The bar is 17-3/4 inches long, so you press a longer seam in sections, sliding the fabric along the bar. It presses one seam at a time; it is not an ironing surface for a whole block.
