How Quilt As You Go Works
The batting is both the pattern and the quilt layer, so piecing and quilting happen at once. Cut your strips and fabrics, attach the backing fabric to the batting, then sew the pieces to the printed panels in numbered order. Stitching them down through the batting quilts each panel as it is built, with no separate quilting step. The quilted panels are then assembled into the cover and caddy.
What You'll Need
Fabric is not included. For one cover and caddy:
- Strip fabrics: 1/8 yard each of eight fabrics, or eight 2½-inch precut strips
- Coordinating fabrics: 1/2 yard each of three fabrics
- Backing: 1-3/4 yards
- Binding: 1/2 yard
The strip panel is pre-cut friendly, so a jelly roll or 2½-inch strips work well. You will also want a rotary cutter and mat, plus a sewing machine and basic supplies.
