What You'll Need

Mini Diamonds is a true scrap-buster, and the smallest-scale one in the line. Each block takes a handful of small pieces for the pieced diamond, plus a background fabric for the corners. The background can stay consistent across many blocks or vary block to block for a scrappier look. Leila Gardunia recommends picking a background that contrasts clearly with the diamond fabrics so the shape reads at this size. Background triangles are cut from rectangles, with the sizes printed in the pattern, and cutting sizes for each section are printed on the foundation itself.

Standard foundation paper piecing supplies make the work go smoothly: a rotary cutter, a paper-piecing ruler such as an Add-a-Quarter, a small pair of scissors, a glue stick or thin appliqué pins, and a sewing machine set to a shorter stitch length around 1.5mm so the paper tears cleanly away from the finished block. A postcard or piece of card stock also helps, giving a firm edge to fold the foundation back against along each seam line.
