Working With Kraft-Tex
Kraft-Tex behaves like a sturdy fabric at the cutting mat and the machine. Cut it with scissors or a rotary cutter and the edges do not fray, so they can be left raw. It sews on a standard machine with a longer stitch and a sharp needle, holds a crease when folded, and needs no interfacing to give a bag or cover its structure. The surface takes paint, ink, rubber stamping, and inkjet printing, which makes it a favorite for mixed-media and bookmaking work. To soften it, machine wash and tumble or air dry. Each wash adds more crinkle and a more leather-like drape. It is used for totes, wallets, belts, book and journal covers, luggage tags, bins, and labels.
Original Unwashed starts firmer than the prewashed Vintage and Designer Kraft-Tex rolls. Choose Original to control the break-in yourself or when a project needs the extra initial structure. Choose a prewashed roll for the soft, crinkled hand from the start.
