How the Quiltsmart Method Works

The interfacing turns the hardest part of a Double Wedding Ring into a fuse-and-topstitch process. Lay a 2½-inch strip on the printed arc, sew on the line, trim and turn, fuse it to the background, then zigzag the edge. The curve is built into the interfacing, so there is no curved piecing and no set-in seams. It is the same Quiltsmart grid logic the bags use, scaled up to a full quilt.

What You'll Need

The pattern includes a full yardage chart for all four layouts. The arcs and the jewel intersections are cut from 2½-inch strips, so jelly rolls and pre-cut strip rolls fit the pattern well. Total 2½-inch strips run from about 21 for the Cross to 51 for the Traditional. Background, backing, and batting scale with the size, from 3½ yards of background for the Cross up to 5½ yards for the Traditional, and binding takes roughly ⅝ to ¾ yard. Full per-size amounts are in the pattern.

A paper cutting template is included, and the Quiltsmart acrylic template is an optional upgrade. 100% cotton is recommended. The rest is the usual quilting kit: rotary cutter, mat, and ruler, an appliqué pressing sheet, invisible thread, an open-toe foot, a fine machine needle, and a tube-turning tool for the arcs.
