Description
Cut 1 1/2 inch squares and trim tiny half-square triangles and hourglass units with a ruler the size of the piece. The 1 inch grid carries 1/8 inch marks, two 45 degree lines cross at the center, and the non-slip grip covers the entire back, so this smallest square in the series holds still while you cut. Rachel Cross of Creative Grids designed the square series with its Turn-a-Round numbering, and on this size the single 1 inch line reads as 1/2 inch from the opposite edge.

How to Use It
One grid line crosses the ruler each way, 1 inch from one edge and 1/2 inch from the other. Black 1s in white dots mark the inch reading on both lines; the white 1/2 in a black dot prints upside down and gives the reading of the same two lines from the opposite edges. Every grid line and all four outer edges carry 1/8 inch tick marks, with longer ticks at the quarters and halves. Measure from the outer edges to cut 1 1/2 inch squares, or from the grid lines to cut 1 inch and 1/2 inch pieces.
Two 45 degree lines run corner to corner, one white and one black, and cross at the center. Set one on the diagonal seam of a half-square triangle, or both on the seams of an hourglass unit, line the unit up on the grid, and trim the exposed sides. White horizontal and vertical lines cross at the center with a small circle: center them on a four-patch or a tiny appliqued or embroidered block and square up around it. The grip on the back covers the whole surface. The ruler slides on the fabric while you position it; pressing down engages the grip.

Fit and Limits
This ruler cuts and squares pieces up to 1 1/2 inches. Anything larger needs the 2 1/2 inch square or bigger; the series goes up to 20 1/2 inches. There are no 30 or 60 degree lines and no hanging hole. The eighth-inch marks are tick marks, not full lines.
