Description
Keep this 1 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch ruler near the workspace for quick measurements and for trimming smaller pieces. The 1 inch grid carries 1/8 inch marks, a 1/4 inch dashed seam line sits inside the whole-inch edge and across one end, and the embedded non-slip grip holds the ruler still when you press down. Rachel Cross of Creative Grids designed it with a 1/4 inch grip band on one long edge and a 1/2 inch band on the other, so the same grid reads in whole inches from one edge and in half inches from the other.

How to Use It
Black numbers 1 to 12 in white dots run along the length from one end. Measure from the long edge with the narrow 1/4 inch grip band to cut whole inches and trim seam allowances; measure from the long edge with the wider 1/2 inch grip band and the same grid lines read a half inch larger, which adds the seam allowance to a finished size. Black and white lines together mark every 1/4 inch across the width. Every grid line and all four outer edges carry 1/8 inch tick marks, with longer ticks at the quarters and halves.
The 1/4 inch dashed line inside the whole-inch edge and across the numbered end is the seam allowance line: set it on a drawn line or a point to trim 1/4 inch beyond it. The ruler slides on the fabric while you position it; pressing down engages the grip.

Fit and Limits
This ruler cuts pieces up to 1 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. There are no Turn-a-Round half-inch numbers, no 45, 30, or 60 degree lines, and no centering lines. The eighth-inch marks are tick marks, not full lines, so eighth-inch cuts take more care to line up.
