Description
Chunky, round patchwork capybaras in solid colors -- teal, pink, orange, brown, peach, yellow, and more -- arranged on a cool mint background with small stylized plant blocks scattered between them. Each capybara is made from two Bella Solids fat quarters: a lighter and darker value of the same color, which gives each animal a subtle depth that makes them look genuinely three-dimensional. Capybaras are South American semi-aquatic animals -- they live near rivers, lakes, and wetlands from Venezuela and Brazil to Argentina -- and these plants evoke the grasses and aquatic vegetation of their natural habitat. Elizabeth Hartman's Capybara Club is a 2025 pattern, and it makes the most of everyone's favorite relaxed, internet-beloved animal.
The construction is all conventional patchwork -- no templates, no paper piecing. At Skill Level 3 of 5, this is a single repeating block pattern with plant blocks as accent elements. Each capybara block is well-documented with diagrams and cutting charts, and the construction is consistent throughout.
What the Pattern Includes
This listing is for the printed paper pattern only. Fabric, batting, backing, and notions are not included.
The pattern booklet includes instructions for four project sizes: a 24" x 24" pillow (1 capybara), a 36" x 45" baby quilt (2 capybaras), a 58" x 66" lap quilt (12 capybaras), and an 82" x 84" large quilt (24 capybaras). The plant blocks are included in all quilt sizes as decorative accent blocks. A fabric chart on Page 2 shows which Bella Solids colors were used in the sample quilts and where each color appears.
What You'll Need
Each capybara block uses two fat quarters -- one lighter value and one darker value of the same color family. The plant blocks are cut from yardage of two different green fabrics.

Why You'll Love This Pattern
The two-fat-quarter system is the key to this pattern's look. Because each capybara uses a lighter and darker value of the same solid color, the animals have dimension that flat single-fabric blocks don't. The large quilt's layout shows the effect at full scale: 24 capybaras in an array of colors, each one slightly dimensional, arranged across a cool mint background with the green plant blocks providing rhythm between them.
The plant blocks are a thoughtful addition. They're faster to make than the capybara blocks, break up what could become a very dense grid of animals, and give the quilt an environmental quality -- these capybaras are somewhere, not just floating. The two plant fabric colors keep the plant blocks visually interesting without adding complexity.
