The Vintage Sunburst is built from four 4-inch quadrant blocks pieced separately and then joined into one finished 8-inch block. The pad includes 42 sheets, with each sheet yielding one 4-inch quadrant. A full pad makes 10 complete 8-inch Vintage Sunburst blocks, with 2 quadrant sheets remaining that can be used as standalone 4-inch mini sunburst blocks.
Also included on the foundations: shaded color placement diagrams, fabric cutting sizes, and a quilt layout guide.
What You'll Need
The Vintage Sunburst is a scrap-friendly design -- the cover specifically calls out scraps as a fantastic option. Each block has 16 wedge pieces (8 bolder wedges alternating with 8 narrower ones) plus a small cream center, so scraps, fat quarter pulls, and charm packs all work well. The more variety in fabric, the more scrappy and playful the result. Background fabric for the narrower neutral wedges is typically pulled from yardage or fat quarters for consistency.
Standard foundation paper piecing supplies make the work go smoothly: a rotary cutter, a paper-piecing ruler such as an Add-a-Quarter, a small pair of scissors, a glue stick or thin appliqué pins, and a sewing machine set to a shorter stitch length around 1.5mm so the paper tears cleanly away from the finished block.
