Description

This is the project that quietly takes over a stitcher's evenings. Ninety small wool circles are arranged in a grid on a soft neutral background, and every single one is a different little embroidered world: flowers, leaves, snowflakes, a fox, an owl, a crab, a snail, geometric stitch studies, and more. The palette stays toned down and monochromatic so the texture does the talking, with just enough pops of color to keep it lively. Worked in perle cottons and specialty threads, it is part sampler, part stitch dictionary, and entirely absorbing.

What the Pattern Includes

This listing is for the printed paper pattern only. Wool, thread, beads, and notions are not included.

The pattern is a complete roadmap for all ninety circles: a needle reference guide, the appliqué layout, full-color stitch diagrams, and numbered stitch and thread references for every circle. It does not include the embroidery stitch instructions themselves: Sue's Creative Stitching Second Edition (sold separately) is the required companion that teaches each stitch. How you finish the sampler is left open, so it can become a wall hanging, a pillow, a bag panel, or whatever suits the space.

What You'll Need

This is a long, rewarding project worked from a neutral wool palette. The supply list calls for a tea-colored wool background plus ten coordinating wool colors for the circles, Ellana wool thread for the appliqué, and a wide range of Eleganza Perle cotton in #8, #5, and #3 along with Razzle, Dazzle, and silk threads for the embroidery. Seed beads and a few small buttons add the finishing sparkle. The complete wool, thread, and bead list is printed on the pattern, and Creative Stitching (sold separately) is required for the stitch instructions.

Perfect For

  • Wool-appliqué and embroidery stitchers who want one big, immersive project
  • Anyone who loves a sampler and wants to build a personal stitch library
  • Stitchers who enjoy a slow, mindful "one circle at a time" rhythm
  • Owners of Creative Stitching ready to put the whole book to use
  • Makers who want freedom to finish the piece their own way

Why You'll Love This Pattern

The genius of this sampler is that it never gets boring. Each circle is a fresh, self-contained design, so there is always a new stitch or motif to look forward to, and the small scale means real progress every time you sit down. Many stitchers work it the way it was born, as a stitch-a-day practice, turning a daily ten minutes into a growing grid of tiny accomplishments.

Keeping the wool palette toned down is a deliberate, clever move: with color turned down, the eye goes straight to the texture, so this becomes the place to truly learn what each stitch can do. It is approachable enough for a confident beginner, yet deep enough to keep an experienced embroiderer engaged for months.

Best of all, the finish is open-ended. Some makers frame the whole grid as a wall hanging, others turn favorite sections into pillows or bags, and a few keep going and design their own circles. However it ends up, it stands as a personal record of ninety small stitched moments and the skills built along the way.
